Airline Excess Baggage Fees By Airline
How Airlines Charge For Excess Baggage
Airlines charge in two main ways: piece (you’re allowed a set number of bags, pay for extra pieces) or weight (you get a total kilo allowance across your bags, pay per kg if you go over).
On most full-service carriers a standard checked bag is up to 23 kg, and no airline will take a single bag over 32 kg.
Extra charges kick in for extra bags, overweight bags (above the standard limit), oversize bags (too big in dimensions), and for carry-on breaches at the gate on some airlines—especially low-cost carriers.
